five years ago, a man faced a mid life crisis. he was a well-loved family doctor working for a small private practice. he had a husband and had adopted a kid only a year prior. he had thought that, with his own two hands, he had built a life that could never be shaken. but, sometimes, when the wind blows, a house goes with it.

a patient dies. a child runs. a husband grows bitter. at some point, there is nothing left to hold onto.

now, the man has let go. he is no longer a doctor. he no longer has a family or an unshakeable life. he wanders the wilderness and helps people any way he can. he takes pictures of birds and posts them on social media, marking down how many birds he's seen since five years ago. he thinks that life may be better this way: or that, perhaps, it is the only life he deserves. after all, his teenage years were fraught with things unbecoming of the man he is today: petty crimes in the name of team rocket. maybe that will come to bite him in the ass in the future.

some part of him still holds on, though. with every passing day, he tries to kill that part of him. sometimes it works, and sometimes it doesn't.

CURRENT PLOTS

the lone ranger
nick is ranger, and a lonely one. his first year as a ranger was met with an accident that led to the disabling of another well-liked ranger, putting them out of the force, and martyring nick in the process. while few current rangers remember this incident, nick's reputation struggles to recover. he's dedicated his new life to getting past this scar on his history—to the point that he'd do whatever it takes to do good.

nick is cagey about his past, preferring to leave it to die, but there are still signs of what he once was, and still people out there who knew him before he changed. his husband, his kid, all the families he once served. team rocket, too, if only because he was once, fully and truly, a part of them before he turned his life around. as long as these people still live, nick will never escape it all.
